Annie’s fashion journey started at just 11 years old, during a visit to her grandma’s house where she learned how to make cushion covers. From there, she began studying textiles in school and fell in love with it. With a passion for using recycled materials and non-conventional shapes in her work, Annie discusses the influence in her own words:

“I love the idea of being able to capture memories in my work. Lots of people have collections of rugby balls and shirts which are just stored away, but they hold so many memories within them. “I source the majority of my materials from Vinted and eBay, or I’m sent them by the brands themselves. And where possible, I use scraps from old projects for the linings to limit the need to buy new materials outright.”

Her rugby ball design has been a fan favourite on social media, and back in August caught the eye of Red Roses and Saracens player, Jess Breach.

“The message from Jess felt unbelievable to me. I remember thinking ‘Wow, somebody like that is interested in a product that I’ve made. And that was just the start of it.

“From there, I worked with World Rugby on a ball for the Rugby World Cup Final; Anna McGann wore my design for her to Ireland fashion week; and now I’m collaborating with PWR for a bespoke bag Giveaway! It has been really special.”

While also working a full-time job, Annie sees her fashion ventures as a successful hobby.

“This is a hobby that has gone well! People might see a quick video on social media, but it takes a lot of time and patience to produce, alongside working full-time.

“But I do it because Iove it and I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had.”

On what’s next for her brand, Annie opens up.

“I love the idea of slow fashion and unique pieces. I’d like to keep making bespoke pieces that capture memories for people, which is the whole reason I do what I do.

“It’s not about making something that will necessarily be worn every day, but something that people will be proud of wearing and owning.

“It belongs to them and their journey.” If you want to be in with the chance to win a bespoke PWR x Annie Carmen handbag, make sure to enter our competition!
