PWR Cup Round 3 Review

A tense week in the PWR cup sees Saracens, Harlequins and Sale Sharks shine - and Exeter Chiefs narrowly beat the league champions!
Round 3 proved crucial in the PWR Cup campaign, with eight teams battling for a place in the knockout stages.
Saracens secured their second win of the competition with a dominant 59-14 victory over Loughborough Lightning. Exeter Chiefs narrowly beat Gloucester Hartpury in a thrilling 36-33 clash, marking their first cup win. Harlequins were in control as they beat Trailfinders 38-22, while Leicester Tigers were held scoreless in a 50-0 loss to Sale Sharks.
Trudy Cowan, Holly Thorpe, Lizzie Duffy and Scarlett Fielding of Sale Sharks each got 10 points, accounting for 40 of the team’s 50 total points.
However, it was Liv McGoverne of Exeter Chiefs who was the top points scorer of the round, with 11 points from 1 try and 3 conversions. Notably, she also assisted 2 tries.
- Trudy Cowan, Holly Thorpe and Scarlett Fielding (Sale Sharks) all scored 2 tries, the most in the round.
- Despite being on the losing side, Haineala Lutui (Loughborough Lightning) had the most carries of the round with 15.
- Cieron Bell (Loughborough Lightning) recorded the most carry metres made with 115, while Holly Thorpe and Nikita Prothero (both Sale Sharks) were joint second with 88 metres each.
- Emily Robinson (Exeter Chiefs) and Trudy Cowan (Sale Sharks) were the best tacklers of the round. They enjoyed a 100% success rate, making 18 and 16 tackles respectively.
